Tribute Games, the creator of such games as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World – The Game and Panzer Paladin, are back again with Shredder’s Revenge. This is an homage to the TMNT arcade beat ’em ups of the late 80s and early 90s. Me and my friend Anthony got some hands on time with the game and were able to ask the devs some questions regarding game and DLC plans.

When I first saw this game at PAX East 2019 – Indie Megabooth I fell in love with the pixel art style and old school platforming. This is a new game made by the developer Dirty Beast Games but it seemed strangely familiar. I only had a chance to preview the game for a few minutes but my initial thought was this is the Tales stand alone game (from the Sonic series) we never got on the Sega Genesis back in the 90’s.

Dicey Dungeons, the new game from VVVVVV creator Terry Cavanagh, was a unique game that stood out at PAX East this year. What started out as a HTML5 browser game has turned into a fleshed out roguelike dungeon crawler.

With art by Marlowe Dobbe and music by Chipzel, Dicey Dungeons’ style really shines. The game plays out like a game show where your character, an adventurer turned into an anthropomorphic die. You descend down six levels, each with stronger enemies and more complex level layouts all culminating in a boss battle at the bottom. Enemies are varied in their design, from wizards and space marines to snowmen and vacuums, each with their own distinct gameplay mechanics. Continue reading “Dicey Dungeons Preview”

Katana Zero came out of almost nowhere dropping their trailer in a recent Nintendo Direct. This Switch console exclusive, also coming to PC, puts you in control of a ninja/samurai who is tasked with various assassination missions. With a slick neo-noir, 80s synthwave visual and audio aesthetic, Katana Zero stood out among the games presented at PAX East 2019. Continue reading “Katana Zero Preview”
